Quite an event for Dartmoor IT - I have had the pleasure of assisting Jess in Australia with getting her Auntie Hazel who lives in Torquay her first laptop and getting her online. Hazel can now chat with Jess and the others using Skype and they can email each other messages (and send photos).
For me, this is a great example of how computers can enhance our lives and bring us closer to the people we care about, no matter where they are.
I spent a little time showing Hazel the basics and she knows she can contact me again, if she wants or needs to learn more. Hazel is newly retired and I suspect that she may find her laptop and internet access useful if she wants to take up new hobbies & activities.
However, if she just ends up using it to keep in touch with her family & friends, I think it will still be very worthwhile, for that purpose alone.
